Missions are a big assignment for the church and, as it was emphasized by Pope John Paul II in one of his messages for the World Week of Mission, the Church is missionary by its nature. The Franciscan friars have been working in missions in Bolivia, Togo, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Albania, Kazakhstan, Morocco and The Holy Land for 25 years. This is a huge human potential. But apart from the human potential there is the need for financial help for the missionaries and the people among whom they are working. The need for the help is huge, starting with educational help among children, teenagers and adults, medical help, especially in Africa where a bigger per cent of people is AIDS-infected, social help etc.
More and more often the western Europe countries which have supported Franciscan missions and our friars withdraw their help. That is the reason why we have to look for help in our country. In order to help our missionaries, a group of people, together with Fr. Krystian Pieczka, who is responsible for missionaries in the Province of St Jadwiga, decided to establish an Association, the aim of which will be supporting our missionaries.
On 16 August 2007 the District Court in Opole registered The Fr. Dominik Kiesch Association of Friends of Franciscan Missions. Its registered office is situated by the Franciscan Monastery in Góra św. Anny. The aim of the Association is the help to Franciscan missionaries from the Province of St Jadwiga who are working in Africa and Southern America, especially in Bolivia. Fr. Antoni Bonifacy Reimann ofm, who is from Kadłub Turawski, has been working in Bolivia as a missionary for 24 years. He has also been working there as a bishop for 5 years.
