ETA - the vocational school in Concepcion
The workshops of the Nuflo de Chavez Vicariate were established in 1951 to provide local people with accommodation. They were carried out by Bishop Anthony Eduardo Bösel during the reconstruction of the cathedral in Concepcion. Then the carpentry and mechanics workshops started functioning as a School-Workshop (a Vocational School). It was at the beginning of 1982. At this time a superintendant from San Ignacio, Jorge Prestel and a superintendant and teacher from Concepcion, Carlos Callaú asked the parson - Fr. Miguel Brems and the curacy, Reinaldo Brumberger for creating the I.B.A. training centre (The Bolivian Institute of Teaching).
The Sister Mercedes Bucio from Mexico became responsible for administration and management of a newly established technical school. The first teachers were the Mexican Sisters Mercedes, Aida and Maria Luisa, two German volunteers Cristobal and Jose and a lay person (Yolanda Alvarez).
Currently there are six teachers paid by the State and five teachers paid by the Vicariate.
The representative of the Chiquitano committee, Mr Luis Mayser, made a request to approve the school by the Ministry. It was officially approved by the Government of La Paz on the 18th June 1982 and on 4th July the document was publicly announced in Concepcion. Later the training centre starting its cooperation with the Fé y Alegria (Faith and Joy) Organization.
At the beginning the educational centre was called IBA but due to the Ministry of Education's recommendations the name was changed into ETA Hans Roth Fé y Alegria. It was done in honour of Hans Roth, the architect and restorer who restored most of the Jesuit churches in the Chiquitanos region.
Currently 177 learners acquire knowledge at 5 specialist directions: carpentry, mechanics, sewing, embroidery and at the computer section.
After finishing the school, the student receive a qualified craftsman's, supporting technician's or a technician's diploma. Unfortunately, ETA does not have their own training departments. Therefore, the sewing and embroidery are located in the Training Centre in Guadalupe, the mechanics and carpentry departments as well as the dormitory are in the Vicariate, and the computer section, the front office and the management office are located in the Sisters' Department.
The education the students acquire consists in combining theory and practice as well as teaching them human, moral and Christian values and responsibility for their work and for help. The best thing is that young boys and girls from poor families are able to get a profession in the future and gifted young people have the possibility to develop their talents.
Thank you very much for your help. We will try to inform you about the progress in the upbringing process.
